We often assume that if we are working hard, sacrificing and giving our best, God must be pleased. But effort does not make disobedience acceptable.

We can be busy doing what God never asked us to do, or stubbornly continuing what He has asked us to stop.

God is not merely looking for our activity. He desires our obedience.

As Samuel told Saul:

“To obey is better than sacrifice.” — 1 Samuel 15:22

Before you celebrate how hard you are working, pause and ask:

Am I working hard at what God has actually called me to do?
