“For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10

The Lesson Summary: The Artist and the Function

This week, we kicked off the Academy by looking at ourselves through the eyes of the Great Artist. We learned that being a “Masterpiece” isn’t about being perfect right now; it’s about being part of a divine plan.

1. The “Rough” Stage Just like an artist drawing on a plain canvas or a potter molding clay, the process can sometimes look messy or “rough.” But the Artist always has the finished plan in mind. Even when we feel we are still “in progress,” God knows exactly what He is building.

2. Designed for a Function We looked at the world around us to understand why God made us:

• When you see a Phone, you think of communication and messages.
• When you see a Fan, you think of cooling and air.
• When people see YOU, they should think of “Good Works.”

Good works are the “function” of a Christian. Whether it is being obedient to parents, telling the truth about the price of a book (not adding an extra 10 Naira!), or refusing to be rude—these are the “calls and messages” of a child of God. This is why people say, “But you are a Christian!”—because they know exactly what a “Masterpiece” of God is supposed to do!

Weekly Home Tasks: The Masterpiece Lab

This week, every student has a daily assignment to practice our “function” as God’s carefully designed handiwork.
The Daily Declaration (All Ages)
Every morning, before you head to school or start your day, look in the mirror and say:
“I am [Your Name], I am God’s Masterpiece, and I am created for good works!”

Age-Grouped Assignments

The Explorers (Ages 3–5 Years):
The Mirror Habit: Look in the mirror every morning and say your Daily Declaration with a big smile!
The “Clean Heart” Task: This week, when Auntie or Mommy asks you a question, practice saying exactly what happened. Using “True Words” is a beautiful good work! Parents please help read this to them

The Builders (Ages 6–10 Years):
The Signature Showcase: What is the “Masterpiece” part of you? You can draw a picture of something you love to do in your Deliberate Christian Kids Journal or sing a song that shows your talent.
The Good Works Journal: In your Deliberate Christian Kids Journal, write down one “Good Work” you did today (like being honest) and one “Bad Work” you said “No” to.

The Influencers (Ages 11–16 Years):
The Identity Video: Record a short video of yourself looking in the mirror and saying your personalized Daily Declaration. Share it with Auntie or in our group to inspire others!
The Anti-Comparison Audit: Identify one social media account or “voice” that makes you doubt you are a masterpiece. Mute it for the week. In your Deliberate Christian Kids Journal, write down three things God says about your design in Ephesians Chapter 1.

Lord Jesus, thank you for making me a masterpiece, Help me to always remember this in every situation and help me to make you proud with good works everywhere I go in Jesus name.

Parental Instruction: Leading the Masterpiece

Your role as a “Deliberate Parent” is to act as the curator of God’s masterpiece in your home.
Change the Vocabulary: Instead of general praise (“Good job”), use “Design Praise.” Try: “I see God’s masterpiece in you when you showed patience with your sibling today.” This connects their behavior to their identity.
Back-to-School Commissioning: As they resume on May 4th, they are entering a “Voice War”. This applies even if they dont school in Nigeria. On Monday morning, pray specifically for their “Masterpiece Identity”—that they will not feel the need to conform to others because they know they were designed by the King.
The “Why” Talk: Ask them: “If an artist makes a masterpiece, do they leave it in the rain or protect it?” Use this to reinforce why we must still “Guard our Life Gates” (from our pilot session).

Podcast Snippet for Parents
In this week’s podcast, we discuss the “Pressure of the Canvas.” We explore how to help our children handle the pressure to be “perfect” by teaching them that being a masterpiece means being “perfectly designed” by God, not being “perfect” by the world’s standards.
