Happy Workers’ Day to you, dear Deliberate Christian! Today, as the world celebrates the contribution of workers globally, it’s a good time to pause and reflect: What does God think about work? What kind of worker are you — not just in your office, but in your home, ministry, and even the secret places of your heart?
Every paragraph of this post is tailored to help you explore your calling as a Christian worker — not just a laborer for wages, but a disciple on assignment.
Work, in its simplest form, is effort applied toward a goal. But for the Christian, work is more than punching a clock or building a business. Work is worship — a means of glorifying God with our time, talents, and tasks.
Workers are not just employees or entrepreneurs. As a believer, you are a steward. Your work is your ministry whether you’re sweeping a floor or closing six-figure deals. Does your work reflect God’s excellence? Ask yourself, “If no one paid me, would I still do this unto God?”
Let’s talk about who a Christian worker really is. Is it just someone with a church title or someone who works at a faith-based organization? Not quite.
A Christian worker is someone who:
Workers of Christ understand that they represent Him everywhere — online, onsite, or at home.
It’s easy to work just for the paycheck — but Christian workers have a dual reward system:
Yes, workers deserve their wages. Your salary, bonuses, and recognition matter. God affirms that. See Luke 10:7.
However, God’s reward isn’t always tied to currency. He gives:
Ask yourself: *”Am I just working for earthly pay, or am I storing up treasures in heaven too?”
Q: Is all work spiritual?
A: Not all work is spiritual, but any work can be
spiritual if done for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Q: Should Christians only do church-related jobs?
A: No. Every industry needs light. Be a worker in government, tech, education, entertainment — as salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16).
Q: Can God bless secular work?
A: Absolutely! God used Joseph in government and Daniel in administration. What matters is your heart and obedience.
Q: Is rest also part of work?
A: Yes. Even God rested. Sabbath is part of a healthy work rhythm (Genesis 2:2-3).
Here are books that guide Christian workers:
Dear Christian worker, let today mark a shift. Don’t just be busy — be fruitful.
Take a moment to reflect:
Comment below: What do you think God is saying to you about your work today?
You are not just a worker. You are God’s workmanship (Ephesians 2:10), created to bring Him glory through what you do. Be it parenting, teaching, managing, coding, or preaching — do it as if Jesus was your supervisor. Because in truth, He is.
This Workers’ Day, let your work speak of your worship.
Father God, thank you for the gift of work. Thank you for sound health and sound mind. Please Help me to work in a God-glorifying way as a Christ ambassador who shines the light and draws others to christ in Jesus name.
