4 Ways of Embracing Genuine Worship in the Face of Trials - December, 2024

“Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship” – Job 1:20(NIV)

Reading the story of Job’s predicament in chapter one of his book, I was fascinated by his reaction to the series of bad news he received in a single day. Job’s response to his immense suffering reveals much about his character and faith.

Initially, Job reacted as any human would-he tore his clothes likely crying out in pain and sorrow. According to Jewish customs, he then shaved his head in mourning. But what followed was truly remarkable. Job fell to the ground and worshipped God.

This reaction wasnt just a momentary display; it was a reflection of Job’s true character. There’s a saying that you don’t know who you are until you are faced with immense blessings or severe trials. Job’s worship on the midst of his suffering demonstrated that his faith and devotion were deeply ingrained in his soul.

The Leson from Job: Worship over Complaints

Consider an orange being squeezed; no matter how much pressure is applied, it will always produce orange juice, not something else. Similarly, when job was ‘squeezed’ by his circumstances, worship flowed out of him because that was his true essence.

Job maintained his worship and faith even when his friends mocked him and his wife was not supportive. His unwavering stance teaches us that genuine worship isn’t dependent on our circumstances but on our relationship with God.

This lesson struck a personal chord with me because I often find myself complaining and questioning God when things dont go as expected. Yet, God calls us to respond in faith not emotions.

Responding with Faith

When confronted with unexpected challenges, what is our reaction? Amidst the hardships we face, especially in our current times, what do we say? When our expectations are unmet, how do we respond? Let’s take a lesson from Job and choose to worshipGod instead of complaining.

God is helping me grow in this area. Now, when I must express my frustrations, I do so through the lens of scripture. I remind myself of what the Bible says about my situation and choose to stand on the truth. This, in itself, is an act of worship, acknowledging that God is greater than any challenge.

Get Deliberate: A Call to Worship

As we step into this new week, let’s practice right attitude of worship towards God. Let’s allow our faith to dictate our responses, knowing that God. Let’s allow our faith tp dictate our responses, knowing that God is bigger than any obstacles we face.

Prayer

Lord, let Christ be fully formed in me so that in every situation, I will respond with an attitude of worship, knowing that you are greater than any challenge I face in Jesus name.

Being able to practice this biblical wisdom might be a struggle for some because they have not yielded their lives to the Lord Jesus. The natural man cannot genuinely worship in the face of trials because he lacks the capability to do so.

Surrender your life to Christ today and commit to a life of discipleship to experience the transformative power of God’s love.

This will not happen by wishful thinking. Join the Deliberate Christian prayer Chain a community of Christians committed to spiritual growth and life transformation. You will be able to maintain an attitude of worship in the face of trials if Christ is given a chance to work on and in you.
