Devotional: A time to keep silent - February, 2025

Bible Reading
Ecclesiastes 3:7b
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak
Words are powerful. A Deliberate Christian should lean on the help of the Holyspirit to know when to speak and when to keep silent. Once spoken, words cannot be taken back.

Request Prayer Support Beloved, we are expressly told in today’s verse there is a time to keep silent, and a time to speak. In other words, it is not every time we open our mouths and begin to utter words that do not glorify God just because we are unable to contain our emotions or anger. There is a time to hold back speech to oneself. You don’t spill everything without a deep thought so that your word will not be a snare to your destiny.
Ecc 5: 6 -7, Prov 18:21
Perhaps if Samson had been prudent enough , he would have been able to resist the provocation of Delilah to open up and pour out his heart which of course cost him is destiny. Yet Abigail, a beautiful woman of good understanding, waited for the right time to give her husband some bad news.
Proverbs 13:15 says, Good understanding giveth favour. In other words, without prudence and discretion, we can’t produce right words at the right time.
Judges 16:17, 1 Sam 25:36
This is why like the psalmist, we ask for God’s help to set a watch over our mouths so that we don’t utter words out of bitterness or anger but wait for the right time to speak the right words.
Psa 141:3, Jam 1:19-20
I pray for grace to be like our heavenly Father knowing when to be silent and when to speak the right words at all times in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
