5 reasons why Christians should pay for Christian growth resources

The debate on whether or not Christians should pay(or give an offering) for Christian growth resources like conferences, trainings, books, bible colleges and the likes has been on for quite a while. To date, a consensus has not been reached. Some ministries and believers are of the opinion that it is right because producing christian growth resources costs people time and money, but others disagree, alluding to the fact that all has been paid for by christ and should be given as freely as it was received.

In this post, we share the perspective of Prophet Jeremiah Johnson, a United States of America based church planter, best selling author, conference speaker and founder of the Altar Global. He shares his experience as a bible degree student at a university and a ministry school founder. Please note the views shared below are the author’s and not Deliberate Christian’s views.

My four year bible degree from an accredited university cost 90,000 dollars. While attending school full time, I also worked 40 hours a week as a janitor cleaning bathrooms and science labs so I could afford the housing, food, etc.

I did not pay tuition because it cost the university money to educate me. I paid tuition because I valued the expertise of the professors and the material I was being taught. It was such an unforgettable experience that I was even willing to work a nasty job just to have a roof over my head and food on the table.

You can imagine why it baffles me then that so many Christians flip out when they have to pay to attend a conference for example. Folks, I don’t pay because it cost the church to put on the conference LOL! I pay because I value the expertise of the speakers and the content I am about to receive. And I also give an offering at the conference beyond the registration fee with joy! Going to a conference and getting 5-8 sessions for a hundred dollars or less is outrageously inexpensive. Hallelujah!!!

A ministry school cost a few thousand, an online mentorship cost a few hundred? I thank God that it’s way cheaper than what it would cost me to go to a university. I gladly pay! It’s called perspective. 100 dollars an hour for a good counselor? It’s well worth the cost compared to the cost of divorce and dysfunction.

A book someone wrote cost 20 dollars? Thank you Jesus! I used to purchase textbooks for my degree that were 200 dollars LOL.

Some of you pay 25 dollars a month to a ministry and get access to all sorts of videos, teaching, etc and don’t even understand what a blessing it is to have access to that much information for hardly anything.

There is not only a poverty mindset that is strangling the Church but also a priority mindset. Most people would simply rather spend money on worldly things than investing financially into their spiritual healing, wholeness, discipleship, and more. Jesus, please set this generation free!
