Devotional: Let Not Your Heart be Troubled - January, 2025
Bible Reading: John 14:25-31
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
Memory Verse:
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27

DEVOTIONAL
In a world filled with uncertainties, challenges, and trials, many hearts are troubled and restless. But as deliberate Christians, Jesus offers us a promise that transcends human understanding—His peace. This peace is not fleeting or circumstantial, like the kind the world gives, but a profound assurance rooted in our relationship with God. True peace begins with knowing Jesus. Without a personal relationship with God through Christ and the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to experience the perfect peace that only He can provide. Jesus declares in John 14:6,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Until we recognize that there is no hope, rest, or reconciliation with God outside of Christ, our hearts will remain troubled. But when we surrender to Him, we are no longer our own; we belong to God, purchased by the blood of Christ (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). This understanding frees us from fear and anxiety because our lives are now in His sovereign hands.
PEACE IN SUBMISSION
Even in His darkest hour, as Jesus faced betrayal and death, He chose submission to the Father’s will. He prayed in Luke 22:42,
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
This act of trust is the foundation of peace. When we align our desires with God’s will, trusting His perfect plan, we release control and allow His peace to guard our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:6-7).
Consider Stephen in Acts 7:55-60, who, even as he faced death, looked up to heaven with peace and forgave his persecutors. Such peace is only possible through the Holy Spirit, who enables us to trust God’s good and glorious plans for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11).
