Questions like, “What does this month hold?” “How can I make the most of it?” “What should I do differently to reach my goals?” and “What do I need to let go of to position myself for success?” may swirl in your mind.

While these concerns are valid, anxiety can only serve to pull us in different directions and keep us stuck in one spot. Instead of succumbing to anxious thoughts, here are five things you should do:

1. Pray: Share Your Fears with God

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

The most effective thing to do when you feel anxious about the future is to pray. Prayer is not merely a repetition of requests; it is a progression from anxiety to faith. When you pray, communicate your fears to God honestly, humbly ask Him to handle your concerns, and thank Him in faith for hearing you.

Many Christians interpret Philippians 4:6 as a simple command, but it is, in fact, a powerful process that takes us from fear to trust. Genuine prayer allows us to release our worries into God’s hands and trust in His provision.

2. Cast Your Cares on God

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved.” – Psalm 55:22 (ESV)

Anxiety can overwhelm us, but God invites us to cast our burdens upon Him because He is able to sustain us. Prayer is not only a way to receive answers but also a therapeutic process that helps us shift our mindset from anxiety to trust. When we cast our cares on God, we align our spirit with His will, pleasing Him and positioning ourselves to receive His peace and provision.

3. Focus on Today

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

Every day has its own challenges and blessings. Our spiritual positioning influences our thoughts and actions, determining how we navigate each day. By focusing on today and trusting God for tomorrow, we prevent anxiety from robbing us of the joy and opportunities available in the present.

4. Immerse Yourself in God’s Word

A consistent and persistent dose of God’s Word is essential to maintaining a healthy spiritual posture. The Word of God is a source of comfort, wisdom, and strength. When we saturate our minds with scripture, we stay joyful amidst trials, thankful in abundance, hopeful in adversity, and humble in success.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

God’s Word provides guidance and clarity, helping us see beyond our fears and trust in His promises.

5. Stay Thankful and Trust in God’s Plan

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)

Anxiety often stems from a lack of control over the future. But remember, there is no situation that God cannot use for His glory. Trusting in God’s plan means believing that He is sovereign over every aspect of our lives. Instead of letting anxiety cripple you, choose to wake up each day assured of God’s faithfulness and loving-kindness. Work diligently, rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and leave the results in God’s hands.

  1. Borrowing from Max Lucado writings “The presence of anxiety is unavoidable but the prison of anxiety is optional . Anxiety is an inevitable part of human experience but God is able to deliver us from the prison of anxiety if we put our trust in him through prayers . God has the ability to inject his resurrection power into any falling circumstances in our life and most importantly he want to do it we just have to trust and believe.
