Devotional: Labour in the Spirit

Bible Reading

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

1 Timothy 4:15

To labour in the spirit is to mine the realities of our new life in God. The finished work of Christ requires appropriation. A Deliberate Christian must diligently labour in the spirit always. As we draw into a more intimate relationship with our heavenly Father, we would come to the realization that we are highly treasured by God. We are His beloved ones, redeemed by His blood to reign as kings and priests upon the earth.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Our labour in the spirit is a seed that causes us to bear the fruit of the spirit as evidence of our new life in Christ. As old things pass away. the new life of God characterized by Christlikeness becomes our new nature

Rev 5:10, 1 Pet 2:9, Eph 3:18-19, James 4:8

The day you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you became a new creature destined to experience the newness of life that comes from being in Christ Jesus. However, this newness of life doesn’t become a reality unless you know God first in His Word with the readiness to walk in the light of His Word.
John 14:15, 1 John 5:3, John 15:10

The simple reason why many struggle for direction and instructions today is that they fail to realize that God has already made provision for everything we need to live a victorious life by His Word.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:3

Are you struggling for direction waiting for a seer to tell you what you are not in Christ Jesus? You can’t reign upon the earth as a king and priest unless you choose to intentionally spend time studying and meditating on His Word.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

2 Timothy2:15

While God is working in us, we also need to put in the effort to study the word diligently. It wouldn’t just happen, we would have to train our bodies to prioritize God and his word till we are approved by Him as a worker who can confidently apply the word of truth to everyday issues of life.

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

1Timothy4:15-16

Beloved, until you allow God’s word to dominate your thinking you can’t see who God says you are and what your inheritance is in Christ. As long as you are born again, you must decide that a day will not go without you spending quality time with Jesus for the scripture plainly tells us in John 1 that Jesus is the Word.

Prayer

Lord help me to be diligent with my study of the word and prayers that I might grow to enjoy my inheritance in Christ Jesus

Jesus is LORD.
